About Our Time Together

Leading your credit union’s strategic planning efforts can be very rewarding but also incredibly challenging. MDC’s North Star Expedition is a powerful event that will bring together MDC’s CSOs and strategic planners for the first time to learn from experts and from each other. MDC is partnering with Paterson Center to design this event specifically for MDC owners to start addressing some of your biggest challenges around strategic planning:
  • Deciding what to do—and what not to do
  • Prioritizing goals
  • Ensuring sufficient resources and expertise to lead strategic planning efforts
  • Working on the business while in the business
  • Agreeing on a common organizational definition of the word “strategy”
  • Developing a common structure, process, and language around strategic planning
  • Keeping the Board focused on the big picture and out of the weeds
  • Defining the role of the Chief Strategy Officer and determining whether it’s the right fit for your organization
  • Understanding the gains realized by credit unions who have the CSO role

Our goal is to connect MDC’s Chief Strategy Officers and execs leading strategic planning for a full two days together to build relationships, learn best practices and tools, and collaborate together. You will leave with new skills immediately applicable to your unique role back home.

  • Connecting all levels of your organization to the plan—communicating clearly, bringing the vision to life, illustrating how every person matters, and getting ownership and buy-in
  • Developing meaningful, simple metrics
  • Creating early indicators to show when a slight turn or redirect is necessary
  • Leveraging data to tell the story of where you’ve been, where you are, and where you’re headed
  • Identifying and prioritizing projects to advance your vision
  • Understanding how key trends and issues inside and outside our industry impact strategy and knowing whether shifts are necessary
  • Demonstrated value and effectiveness of the CSO role
  • Surface and address core issues and opportunities that you face in your role
  • Industry trends driving emerging opportunities
  • Leading communication, alignment, and buy-in
